“Ruia taku taitea, kia rongo taikākā - Know me before you teach me”
Strong, caring relationships are at the heart of our kindergarten. Our close-knit team of five local wāhine kaiako brings over 50 years of collective experience. We take time to understand each tamaiti - their interests, strengths, culture and individual needs, and work in partnership with whānau to support their learning and wellbeing.
We acknowledge the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa and welcome all cultures. Language, culture and identity are woven through our everyday learning and relationships. Our practice reflects kaupapa Māori values, including manaakitanga, tuakana-teina and whakawhanaungatanga. Tamariki learn to care for one another, build relationships and celebrate their achievements together.
Many of our whānau have strong connections to the maunga, awa, whenua and moana around us. We value these connections and want every tamaiti to see their identity, culture and whānau recognised within their kindergarten.
Our large outdoor environment includes a sandpit, climbing equipment, and māra kai. Tamariki have space to explore, be active, take on challenges and develop curiosity and confidence. Whānau are encouraged to share in learning alongside tamariki, including through caring for and growing kai in our gardens.
Indoors, tamariki enjoy a vibrant, well-resourced environment with a wide range of fun and meaningful learning experiences that support creativity, problem-solving and learning through play.
We are proudly local and committed to supporting our whānau. We provide free nappies and kai top-ups, and our Mātauranga Ake team regularly visits to offer free, wrap-around support and guidance for whānau where needed.
Nau mai, haere mai - come and visit us to experience the warmth, care and connection that make Pūtauaki Kindergarten such a special place.
